Home of the classic red telephone box.

Unicorn supplied the landmarks that you see in prestigious sites such as Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, The Houses of Parliament, and the Tower of London.

We are acknowledged experts when it comes to the restoration of telephone kiosks and cast iron street furniture.

We have carried out restoration projects for British Telecom, The Corporation of London and English Heritage.

We are the choice for the B.T. Museum, The National Postal Museum, The National Kiosk Collection and
private collectors throughout the world.

Only Unicorn can show this high standard and pedigree, and we are pleased to offer our services to you, for all your heritage requirements.

Red Icon
Whenever there are polls to see what we feel are the icons of Britain, telephone kiosks and post boxes are
high on the list. Apart from our nostalgia for them, they have been rated as a modern classic by the Design
Museum, and were voted a top ten British icon by the Culture Show.

Magic Box
In "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", The Ministry of Magic is accessed via a magic telephone box.
So with the latest film released you can see the K2 kiosk that we supplied.

Olympic Ring
As we supplied kiosks to the last three Olympic games, we are delighted to have the games come to London in 2012. It has been proposed that they are used as interactive kiosks that give information at the venues. They will be easy to spot as the red box is recognisable to vistors from all over the world.

Lord Mayor sees red!

City of London Lord Mayor Michael Savory launched a campaign to keep red telephone boxes at historic sites including St Paul's Cathedral and Fleet Street

Lord Mayor Savory said "Red telephone boxes are iconic landmarks on the streets of the City and need to be kept at historic sites".

"Every tourist takes their first picture in the UK outside a red phone box - and they are not only historic but charming."

Save our streets!
Writer Bill Bryson has lent his support to an English Heritage campaign to clear visual chaos from our streets and promote design classics. "Save our Streets" looks to rationise the forest of signs, bins, posts, bollards and paving that blight Britain.

" This is a country thoughtful enough to remind people to look left and right before stepping off the kerb, and stylish enough to produce iconic pieces of street furniture such as red telephone and letter boxes. It is incumbent upon England to show world leadership in civilised streets."

A kiosk and a half!
You can see an unusual piece of our work at the Yoo development at the old Telephone Exchange building in Maida Vale.

We welded two K6 boxes together to make a twelve foot giant. This striking landmark is dressed with an unique Jubilee interior fitted on Italian marble and black velvet drapes!

These unusual fittings reflect those inside the converted building created by top designer Philippe Starke.

Reclaimers

We watched the television through our fingers as a dealer attempted to deliver an original pillar box. He and his crew wobbled their way down the garden path breaking pots, and then struggled to drop the box down the hole.

Unicorn has a range of lifting equipment and years of experience that will ensure a smooth delivery for your piece of heritage.

Kiosk corner
We have written a series of articles for the Telecommunications Heritage Journal. They advise on what factors to consider when buying and restoring your kiosk. As ever, we are happy to advise for free and
as a supplier to BT we have all the spares that you will need.
1. Buying your kiosk

2.Restoring. Part one

3.Dressing your kiosk

Red and green
Most of our customers will place their kiosk in their garden. And good positioning goes a long way to showing your kiosk at it's best. Slightly hidden so as to be a surprise to visitors and against a background of deep green foliage always works well.

Our kiosks and postboxes have been used at Hampton Court and Chelsea Flower Shows.

We also recentlyprovided the centre piece for the British themed garden in Lille.

Fittingly it is titled the "Rain Garden"

Buyers beware!
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and Unicorn seems to be the one to copy. Other sites have popped up offering kiosks that have plagiarised our own. Unfortunately they are pretty shabby versions. I take calls from many collectors who have been let down by these firms.

My advice is to look out for "experts" where the only contact is a mobile phone, or sites that offer no examples, prices or previous work. We are always available for advice free of charge.

Back in order
Unicorn restored the famous "Tumbling Telephones" sculpture in Kingston upon Thames. The sculpture is a line of twelve kiosks leaning against one another on edge. The sculpture by David Mach is properly called "Out of Order" and had suffered from vandalism. We stripped the paint back to the metal and welded the breaks. After painting we fitted new handles and Telephone signs. The sculpture was officially re-opened by the Mayor of Kingston.
